Virtual Reality experiences are proliferating in cultural venues – festivals, museums, cinemas – offering a growing diversity of content and ways of experiencing these moments spent with a headset on. The medium is evolving rapidly, and both creators and distributors are still lacking the codes to make VR experiences accessible to as many people as possible, and to make them easier to use so that users can enjoy experiences in the best possible conditions.

Phygitale attendees will create a metaverse with Minetest (open source application similar to Minecraft) to place inside it a virtual Christmas tree that will be directly linked to another electronic tree in real life. In this way, by turning on or off the lights of the tree in the metaverse, the other tree will also turn on or off its lights. The “Phygitale” workshop offers the opportunity to get to know a metaverse, experimenting and playing with the relationship between the physical and the digital, being able to alternate the effects between two equal elements located in different dimensions.

Works from the exhibition “Metaverses: realities in transition” will be used to reflect on issues such as identity, affect, sustainability or the redistribution of power online. Then a group research will be proposed on digital artistic practices building a metaverse of their own in Matadero as tools capable of imagining and building post-political worlds that propose alternatives to some of the great contemporary challenges.

Starting from the virtual reality work Gloomy Eyes, this workshop’s goal is to get inspired by its unique universe and build a board game from scratch. The idea is to mix 3D printing, graphic design and augmented reality to create an interactive and fun tool.

This workshop’s goal is to create an avatar as an augmented reality face filter, then bring it to life in photos, or in a short video. This workshop is aimed at children from the age of 6, accompanied by at least an adult. It was open to anyone fulfilling this requirement, and up to 16 participants.

“Virtual Landscapes” was a VR exhibition coordinated by the Galaxy Network Festival in many different countries across the world, the french occurrence taking place in the MEDIALAB, in la Friche la Belle de Mai, in Marseille.

The goal of this workshop is to imagine and bring to life creatures in augmented reality. It is inspired by FAUNE from french artists Adrien M & Claire B.

These workshops were organized with La Fondation Agir Contre l’Exclusion in order to give teenage girls confidence in their abilities to work with technological devices, to learn about the different career opportunities available and to discover the work of female digital artists. To do so, we chose to inspire them with augmented reality where they created their creatures on paper and animated them in real life.

This workshop is divided into two parts and is inspired by the immersive and interactive installation Dernière Minute and the augmented reality pictures FAUNE of the french artists Adrien M & Claire B.
The students were first encouraged to paint a black and white landscape of emotions. They were then asked to film themselves on a green screen to add their video to their painting in augmented reality.

This workshop was created in partnership with Diversion Cinema, a virtual reality event agency to teach the members of the Club XR how to organize a VR exhibition. The Club XR is a club which takes place every Wednesday evening (not including the holidays) from 5 pm to 7 pm where the members meet and test various VR experiences and debate.

Club XR is a meeting place for XR enthusiasts and those curious about virtual reality, augmented reality and mixed reality. Every Wednesday afternoon, the Club offers a series of highlights, including virtual reality experiences, exhibition design, digital creation workshops, and exchanges with artists and professionals.

Based on the hackathon held by LEV Festival with thirty students of the School of Applied Arts and Design of Zagreb in October 2023, we have come up with some guidelines that can support schools to organise a similar event with your students.
