Critical XR Manifesto: Exploring ethical dimensions of XR / Boris Debackere (BE), Aurelie Delater (FR), Vanessa Hannesschläger (AT), Alisa Verbina (RU), @POSTCITY, Workshop Room Photo: vog.photo

The interactive workshop addresses XR artists and professionals from Europe and beyond, inviting them to contribute their expert perspectives in a collaborative setting. It aims to create a critical framework, emphasizing the significance of collective debate within the community rather than individual efforts.

The session introduced the customized CXRM application, enabling participants to contribute perspectives and statements to the manifesto. During the workshop, the ethical dimensions of XR will be explored in four discussion groups covering artistic XR ethics (boundaries between artistic and commercial XR production, influence of technology on the form of artistic production), technological ethics (issues of openness/open source, accessibility, privacy), industrial ethics (issues of profit, commercialization and industry) and user ethics (issues of virtual escapism, identity politics, appropriation).

The event ended with a networking session, which strengthened links and mutual understanding between XR experts.
