Participants

Our target audiences were primary and secondary schools. We took on 15 classes of around 30 students from the age of 8 till 14 years old.

Learning Objectives

After having discovered the work of Adrien M & Claire B through visiting the immersive and interactive installation Dernière Minute, our team came to the schools to teach them how to paint the emotions they felt during the experience. In class we also showed them some other work from the same artists such as FAUNE and Dernière Pluie, both in augmented reality. We then taught them how to film themselves on a green screen, how to edit and how to use their videos to create augmented reality.

 Implementation

For the first part of the workshop we talked about Dernière Minute together. We asked them to work in groups of 3 or 4 and gave them 3 cards : an emotion, a movement and a shape.
We also handed out cases with China ink, paint brushes, crayons, charcoal, toothbrushes and sponges in them. They were encouraged to paint a landscape of emotions which would become the background of their augmented reality creations.
For the second part of the workshop we returned to their schools and set up a green screen. They filmed themselves with their tablets and were asked to imagine a choreography of 10 seconds inspired by their paintings.
They used the online software UNSCREEN to remove the green background and then went onto Artitive Bridge to edit their videos and add the picture of their paintings. They could then use the Artivive App on our Ipads to scan their paintings and see their videos come to life.

Location and Duration

These 4 hour long workshops (2 hours x 2 hours) were conducted by our project coordinator and digital mediators during November and December in Marseille, Aix-en-Provence and its surroundings. These workshops are part of a program called Une Rentrée Numérique (URN) in partnership with l’Académie d’Aix-Marseille.

Key Takeaways

These workshops were well received by the teachers and the students. Many of the teachers decided to download the Artivive App to create an exhibition in their schools or to work on them in future lessons.
