Each of the 3 speakers gave their point of view on the user experience, distribution and reception of their XR works by audiences.

Cross-cutting question :
“Financial resources are allocated to production, but this also requires distribution spaces. However, creating new venues from scratch is certainly not the solution, as it is unlikely to attract more audiences. What are your thoughts on this?”

  • There are funds allocated to production, but there is insufficient funding for communication and distribution.
  • It is essential to install virtual reality experiences in the halls of cultural establishments in order to raise public awareness of their existence. In a theatre, for example, it might be possible to offer both virtual reality experiences and traditional live performances.
  • In the field of live performance, our opinions can be heavily influenced by prejudice. So it’s essential to have the opportunity to experience virtual reality in order to broaden our perspective and change our point of view.
  • In the field of theatre, it is already common practice to offer non-performance events such as conferences, immersive theatre and cinema. It is essential to find a way of integrating virtual reality into these offerings and facilitating collaboration between programmers of traditional experiences and those offering new forms of experience.

> We are seeing an evolution in practices on the part of :

  • The public: Once people have experienced virtual reality, they are generally captivated.
  • Institutions: More and more institutions are using XR to complement their offerings.
  • Content production: The facilities and tools for creating content mean that it can be produced more quickly and access to XR can be made more widely available.

The current trend is towards :

  • Large-scale experiments involving a large number of participants interacting simultaneously, thus encouraging participative experiences.
  • A pragmatic approach where venues will be able to use augmented reality (AR) to integrate signage and information without altering the essence of the venue.
