Across three days, the programme combines workshops, discussions, artistic experiences and networking opportunities. From exploring the RiT Metaverse in VRChat to discovering immersive works presented at L.E.V. Matadero, the XR Camp offers different ways to engage with XR — through making, experiencing, questioning and sharing.

The programme also addresses some of the critical questions surrounding immersive technologies today: Who gets to experience XR? How can immersive works become more accessible without compromising artistic freedom? And how can alternative, decentralised virtual environments offer new spaces for creation, resistance and community?

Designed as a space for exchange and experimentation, the XR Camp connects the RiT community with local artists, creators, activists and collectives, creating opportunities to share practices, discover new perspectives and build potential collaborations.

Connecting communities

16:00 · Partners Coffee Time — Hello
An informal gathering for RiT 2 partners to meet, introduce their organisations and areas of expertise, and begin building connections across the network.

17:00–18:45 · Guided collective visits to online metaverses
Led by Jesús Jara, this practical session invites participants to explore different online metaverse environments, including the RiT Metaverse in VRChat and its recent migration from Overte.

19:00–20:30 · XR Community Meet-up: Connecting Communities
A cross-disciplinary gathering connecting the RiT 2 community with artists, creators, activists and collectives from different fields. Short presentations will introduce the work and projects of invited participants, followed by informal conversations and networking.

Experiencing and questioning XR

A guided exploration of XR and immersive works presented as part of L.E.V. Matadero, offering participants the opportunity to experience projects combining artistic, technological and experimental approaches.

12:00–14:00 · Workshop — Anatomy of an Immersive Piece: How Extended Realities Are Created
Led by artist Carles Castaño, this hands-on workshop explores the different stages involved in creating an immersive and interactive artwork, from initial concept to production and experimentation. Using examples from Castaño’s practice, the session offers an accessible introduction to XR technologies, particularly Mixed Reality.

17:00–18:30 · Panel — Who Gets to Experience XR?
Artistic freedom, accessibility and the politics of distribution

Artists and professionals will discuss the challenges of presenting XR works to diverse audiences, asking how accessibility can be improved without simplifying immersive experiences. The panel will explore the relationship between artistic experimentation, distribution, audience needs and the conditions under which people can access XR art.

10:00–11:30 · Workshop — How to Make a Meeting in the VRChat Metaverse
Led by Jesús Jara, this practical session explores VRChat as a space for meetings, professional gatherings and collaborative activities. Participants will experience communication and interaction within the metaverse first-hand.

12:00–14:00 · The Metaverses as Spaces for Creation and Resistance
A discussion exploring free and decentralised metaverses as alternatives to centralised platforms. The session will look at questions of user sovereignty, privacy, interoperability and community-led spaces, and consider their potential for a more open and democratic immersive internet.
